Australian billionaire: Stay away, Tiger Woods

Australian billionaire and Palmer Coolum Resort golf resort owner Clive Palmer, says the following about the former number one golfer in the world:

"Tiger Woods isn't the No 1 golfer in the world any more. We don't want to look backwards, we want to look forwards. So why would you get Tiger Woods here? I would prefer to have Peter Senior than Tiger Woods. I am sure Peter Senior could beat Tiger Woods on a good day. I am sure he could. Tiger Woods has improved a lot but he's an emotional wreck and he's not a good example for kids, anyway."

Allen Stanford: The Other Ponzi Schemer

Yes, the other Ponzi scammer, Allen Stanford (see: The $8-billion Caribbean confidence game of Allen Stanford), is back in the news because now the authorities are going after others associated with the former Texas billionaire and former sponsor of the PGA Tour.

We here at Think Billion$ smell the irony of Allen "Stanford" in a different direction.

Here we have scammer Allen Stanford, who claims lineage to the Stanford family of Stanford University; who was a former sponsor of the PGA Tour which produced former billionaire Tiger Woods, a former Stanford golfer (but, not a graduate of Stanford University); who scammed Elin Nordegren who now has a new boyfriend.

This makes us think back to some of the lessons from The Lion King (1994):
Zazu: What's going on?
Mufasa: A pouncing lesson.
Zazu: Oh, very good. Pouncing. *Pouncing*? Oh, no, Sire, you can't be serious...
[Mufasa signs for "turn around"]
Zazu: This is so humiliating.

Tiger Woods costs shareholders $12 billion

If you own stock in AT&T, American Express or other companies, Tiger Wood's extramarital affairs has already cost you if you hold stock in a company he sponsors or a mutual fund that holds stock in those companies.

"Total shareholder losses may exceed several decades' worth of Tiger Woods' personal endorsement income," said Victor Stango, a professor of economics at the University of California, Davis and co-author of the new definitive study on the subject.

Professor Stango examined stock market returns for the 13 trading days that fell between Nov. 27, the date of the car crash that ignited the Woods' scandal, and Dec. 17, a week after Mr. Woods announced his indefinite leave from golf. He compared the stocks to the total market and to competing stocks, plus they looked back four years to get a sense of how the stocks have historically done in comparison to the market and to competitors.

Tiger Woods is now a drain on capitalism itself (sorry to say)!

The Top 5 bad billionaires for the year 2009

Well, here we are at Think Billion$ at the end of 2009 and the end of the decade.

How do we close out the year with some sort of profound post? Well, once again we've been doing some thinking and serious research.

Last year The outcome of which is our First Annual "The Top 5 bad billionaires for the year 2008" list. How about that?

So here's the bad-boy list for this year, and let us know what you think:

Tiger Woods: while technically not a billionaire in net worth terms, everyone has been calling him that over the past couple of years because he has earned a billion from golf winnings and from personal endorsements. Why has Tiger been a bad billionaire for 2009? Come on, is this really a serious question???

Bernie Madoff: we found out about Bernie's badness in 2008, but was locked away in 2009.

Al Gore: we found out this year that Al is a "carbon Billionaire"

Allen Stanford: another convicted billionaire con.

Mark Cuban: for being Mark Cuban.

Mrs. Woods tries to tame a Tiger

Tiger Woods --- the first billion-dollar earning sportsman in the world (estimated by Forbes magazine).

In September of this year, he won the prized FedEx Cup. Besides winning golf tournaments, Tiger has incredible endorsement contracts with companies such as Gatorade, Gillette and Rolex. The most lucrative is with Nike.

Now, as the whole world knows, he is in a Tiger-sized mess. Mrs. Tiger Woods was allegedly trying to brain him with a golf club!

Tiger Woods is probably embarrassed that his wife beat the crap out of him. Police investigation, certainly. TMZ and entertainment shows, heck no!

BTW, by law, Florida law enforcement is required by law in FL to investigate the potential spousal abuse by either party. Could get more interesting.

See you on the course next year Tiger!

Tiger Woods, Billionaire

According to CNBC’s Darren Rovell, today’s $10 million purse for winning the Fed Ex Cup has brought Tiger Woods closer to crossing over the billion dollar threshold for career earnings. He’s still a ways off from the $6 billion that ESPN Magazine once predicted he’d net for his career, but still, not a bad haul, all things considered.

Oprah Winfrey tops Forbes ‘Celebrity 100 Power List’

Billionaire Oprah Winfrey, with an estimated net worth of $1.5 billion, is back on top of Forbes' annual "Celebrity 100 Power List." The Forbes list ranks the rich and famous based on earnings and buzz. Oprah has replaced Tom Cruise as the world’s most powerful celebrity and last topped the list in 2005.

Winfrey, who came in third last year, was the top money-maker with an estimated income of $260 million over the past 12 months from various media ventures.

Famous jailbird Paris Hilton has dropped off this year’s annual Forbes magazine list. Also not making the cut were two other young women with party-girl reputations - actress Lindsay Lohan and singer Britney Spears (last ranked in 2002).
